High-speed switched reluctance generators directly coupled with gas or steam turbines provide an ideal source of electric power due to their higher efficiency and power density, better fault tolerance and reliable operation. In this application gearboxes can be completely eliminated. The rotor of the generator must be robust because rotation speeds can be as high as 100,000 RPM or more. A solid rotor of the switched reluctance generator is the best solution in this case. A rotor free of magnets and windings and with low heat dissipation allows to extend operating temperature of the machine up to 500В°C (932 F).
For designing the high speed switched reluctance generators KASKOD-MTRONIX uses a complex approach including detailed finite element analysis of the magnetic field, stress, motion, vibration and thermal analysis of the machine.
